Kohima College was established on the 9th August 1967 as the first private college in the capital city of Nagaland, offering studies in the branch of Humanities for the first time in Kohima.

The College was taken over by the Government of Nagaland with effect from 1st February 2006. Dr. Watijungshi heads the College as its Principal in the present set up. The college is presently located in the scenic hillock of Kruoliezou, a fast growing sector in Kohima Town. The present campus covers a total area of 28.27 acres; the College has a three-storied building having three blocks, with 15 classrooms, 1 language laboratory, 1 seminar hall, and an auditorium. It has a digitized library, with internet and wifi-facility. Within the last 5 years, the college has made positive and conscious decisions to acquire and increase infrastructural facilities so as to enable students to enjoy a wider spectrum of their educational experience. A 50 accommodation capacity girls hostel alongside the College building is operating presently. Construction of a 100 bedded Boys hostel is nearing completion. Further, construction of a UGC funded Indoor stadium sports complex is on the verge of completion and additional rooms for Commerce wing is on the verge of completion. There are also plans for constructions of new classrooms to facilitate more intake capacity of students; staff quarters and more hostels for both boys & girls are in the pipeline.
