Eastern Christian College is located at Padumpukhuri area under chumukedima sub-division of Dimapur district, Nagaland. It is, in fact, the only college in this area with approximately 586 students. It is a co-education college affiliated to the Nagaland University. The college has 9600 sq.m of land and geographically located in a Tribal Area. Situated by the National Highway-29, the college is well-connected with the state capital and other important places of Nagaland. The college received recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC) Under 2(f) and 12(B) on 28th November, 2006. In the early years the college was setup on a land leased premises in four katcha bamboo wall and C.G.I. roofing in Naga style in the bye lanes off Padumpukhuri . On 12th April, 1996 it moved into its own two storey RCC buildings by the side of NH-29.Built on ground levels, many more buildings have been added since 2010, the most remarkable of them being the college auditorium.

Initially, when the college started it was attached to Dimapur Government College, for all its administrative and academic works. However, in 1993 the college started functioning itself as a full-fledged affiliated college under N.E.H.U. and in 1995 under Nagaland University. Gradually, in 1997 -1998 the Nagaland University grants provisional affiliation for B.A. (Gen) and B.A (Honors) in political science and English for a period of three years (1997-2000). Consequently, in the year 2009-2010, Nagaland University granted provisional affiliation in sociology (General), introduction of Bachelor of Commerce course, sociology (Honours) and permission for opening B.A (General) Evening session. The following figures indicate how the number of students in the college fluctuated over the years, and escalated later: 1992 (47), 1993 (65), 1994 (105), 1995 (215), 1996 (222), 1997 (220), 1999 (251), 2000 (260).The number of enrolled students at present is 586. In the first ten years the strength of the teaching faculty staff varied between 6 to 14 teachers which gradually rose to between 15 to 18 by 2001 and hardly went up beyond 20 until 2005.Since then, the number of teachers has tended to increase rapidly and is now around 32. Since 1995, the college has been slowly and gradually increasing in numbers and infrastructure. The layout of its present buildings in 9600 sq.m site was planned for the optimum used of its physical capacity.
