The A.S. College, Khanna, was established in the year 1946. The College is affiliated to Panjab University Chandigarh. It is a grant-in-aid institution. The college was established by the Anglo-Sanskrit High School Khanna Trust and Management Society whose aim is to empower the educationally backward and disadvantaged, predominantly rural population, by imparting a liberal general education (in languages, arts, science and technical education) with a special stress on the values of humanism, secularism and nationalism. The institution is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) and 12(b). In view of the overall assessment of the institution, it has been accredited A+ Grade by NAAC, Bangalore in 2004. Presently, it is gearing up for the reaccrediation process to be undertaken soon during the coming years.
The college is located in a semi-rural area on out skirts of Khanna town. The college offers B.A, B.Sc, B.Com, B.Com E-Commerce, B.C.A and B.Voc at undergraduate level and M.A in English, History, Pol. Science, Mathematics,Punjabi, Economics  at Post Graduate level. More recently, M.Sc. (IT) has been started wef Academic Session 2012-2013.The College also offers Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications, which is self-financing. Besides, the college at present is running three certificate courses in Computer Applications, Foreign Trade Practices & Procedures and Introduction to Computer Sciences. More recently, UGC, New Delhi sanctioned Craeer Oriented Programmes: Biotechnology, Industrial Chemistry, and Travel & Tourism have been started during the ongoing session. Besides, a non-credit course on environmental education is mandatory. The college also prepares its students to hone their skills in spoken English and to appear in proficiency tests in the language of English by arranging tutorials in IELTS and TOEFL. Basic courses in German and French languages in non-formal mode are being offered by the college as add on courses keeping in view the imperatives of emerging global job opportunities. The college also offers crash courses in the use of internet, Vermicomposting and Personality Development.
The college possesses a campus covering 21 acres of land. The student strength in UG Programmes in the ongoing session (2012-2013) is 2405 (1357 boys and 1048 girls). All the students are from the surrounding areas and very few are from outside the state. The unit cost of education of the institution is more than Rs. 4642 approx. (excluding salary component). The temporal plan for the academic work of the college is of annual type for UG courses and Semester type for PG courses. The college has a Central library, Computer center, First-aid facility, Canteen, Career Guidance Centre, Staff Quarters for class IV employees. Besides, the college has separate common rooms for boys and girls, separate cycle stand for boys and girls and adequate parking space for employees. There are adequate drinking water facilities and toilet blocks.
The college now has a total strength of 70 teachers (44 Men & 26 Women). Some of the staff members of the college are on the Board of Studies, Syndicate, Senate and Academic Council of the Panjab University.  Within the framework of the curriculum as prescribed by Panjab University, the college has been developing such packages which enrich the knowledge, skill and values that help students in achieving academic excellence. The teachers are upgrading their knowledge and skills by regularly conducting and participating in seminars, conferences, workshops, orientation courses and refresher courses. The college has strong Alumni Association with a membership of over 1400 persons and quite a few of them occupy prominent positions in public life. To name a few would be Sh. The following activities being undertaken by the institution amply highlight the goals and objectives of the institution:

    To undertake new initiatives to improve infrastructural facilities, examination system, library services etc.
    To organise and participate in extra-curricular activities such as NCC, NSS, talent hunt events, declamation contests, paper/poster presentation contests, debates, essay writing competitions, community services programmes, public awareness meets, sports events, and to commemorate days of special importance.
    To conduct and participate in seminars, workshops, conferences, extension lectures, publish books & articles, provide research guidance, pusue research projects and develop linkage with alumni, professional societies, clubs, NGOs etc.
    To participate in different sports competitions/championships at inter-college, university and inter-university level.
    To participate in different items of the cultural and heritage festivals organised at zonal, university and inter-university level.
    To provide employment opportunities by arranging vocational courses, crash courses, campus interviews and training sessions.
    To organise and participate in faculty enrichment programmes.

The college has evolved an institutional mechanism to monitor the quality of different academic programmes through its various administrative/advisory committees and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell. These committees design/recommend the desired improvements in the academic programmes on the basis of feedback received from the students, parents and industry as a consequence of which special value addition packages are formulated to enrich the knowledge and competence levels of the students.
