One of the top colleges in India, Loyola College is situated in Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu. The college was established in July 1925. Currently, it is offering courses in various fields of study, right from arts, science and commerce to social sciences and natural sciences, at different degree levels. The college is affiliated to University of Madras.
The undergraduate courses are divided into two shifts – Shift 1 wherein the government provides financial support and Shift 2, in which, students pay the full tuition fees.
Loyola College is named after the ancestral castle, where St.Ignatius Loyola was born in the year 1941. The college has been an important part in the history of higher education in India. Right after its inception, the college began with first year BA Economics, History and B.Sc Mathematics. It obtained affiliation within the first three years of starting its function, which is a praise-worthy achievement in itself. B.Com course was added to the list of courses offered by Loyola College, in 1945.
