Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Ranchi, which was established in 1955, is a deemed University. BIT Ranchi ranks among the premier technical institutes of India and has several firsts to its credit. BIT Ranchi was the first Institute to establish a Department of Space Engineering & Rocketry in the year 1964. BIT mESRA (Ranchi) became the first technical University to establish overseas extension centers in the year 2000. It is one of the few Universities to be accorded a Super Computer at the core of its ultramodern IT infrastructure. Birla Institute of Technology Ranchi has got accreditation by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and approved by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and UGC. The institute offers various courses in the engineering stream at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels
