Ranchi College is one of the oldest constituent units of Ranchi University. In fact, the history of development of higher education in Jharkhand and the growth of Ranchi College are indistinguishable. Ranchi College was upgraded to the graduate level in 1946 and post-graduate level in 1951. Since its inception, a large percentage of the students in the college have belonged to scheduled caste, scheduled tribe, Muslims, and other backward classes. This has increased with the passage of time. We hope we shall be able to gear ourselves to the challenges ahead  the challenges that have come up through the continuing process of Liberalization, Privatization, and Globalization. . In keeping with the UGC guidelines and introduction of the semester system, there has been a thorough change in the curricular aspects of all the departments. New courses have been started to keep pace with the local and global demands. In step with the developments the departments have been revamped and reorganized. With the receipt of additional grants from the UGC we are now moving into the interactive learning system to upgrade the teaching methods and striving to make the institution an academic hub with new courses and new opportunities in Jharkhand. The college has now fulfilled its basic requirements for both the classrooms and practical laboratories which have now been upgraded using grants from the UGC. The examination department has been overhauled to take in the pressures of the semester system and the college has been made Wi-fi for instant informational access. The faculty members have inculcated a culture of learning and research. The research aspects have received a boost with about 20 minor and 5 major project grants received from the UGC.
