The Gurusiddappa Kotambri Law College was established in the year 1974 as an evening college to cater especially to the needs of the people of this region who were very keen in enhancing their law awareness. The establishment of the law college was made possible due to the munificent donation of philanthropist Dr. T. M. Kousali, and the college was named after his genitive father Gurusiddappa Kotambri.

This college has approval from Government of Karnataka. Permanent affiliation is granted by Karnataka University. Bar Council of India, New Delhi has also granted its Recognition (vide registration No BCI/LE/GKLC/KU/15/2002)to this college. Over and above the University Grant Commission New Delhi, has also recognized this college for its assistance, under Sec. 2(f) and 12 (B). The college has been reaccredited with B Grade by NAAC.The college is located on the main road adjacent to several prominent educational institutions. The area is aptly called Vidyanagar owing to the most conducive atmosphere prevalent for academic perseverance. The college is housed in an imposing building with all the modern amenities. The students are provided with voluminous library with internet facility, spacious lecture halls, qualified and dedicated teaching staff, separate hostel facilities for boys and girls, Bank, Canteen, Post Office, Bus services etc.

The College was assessed and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council in the year 2005 with B++ Grade and reaccredited with B grade in the year 2011.

The efforts of the resourceful, able and committed academicians in addition to the services of experienced advocates are pooled towards creating a perfect ambience to motivate students to equip themselves with professional skills and knowledge. The college encourages the teachers to adopt various teaching methods and programmes namely multidisciplinary programmes, special lectures, Co-operative teaching, Remedial activities, Bridge course, Seminars, Group Discussions, Moot Courts /Mock trials, Subject quizzes, Debate, Projects, clinical legal education experiential learning etc. The Legal Aid Cell in our college assigns the students to work for Legal Literacy programmes and to attend Lok adalat as part of the curriculum. National level Workshops, Symposia, Seminars is also organized by the college.
