Establishment:- In1836 this college was established and known as ROBERTSON COLLEGE. In 1947 its name was changed into MAHAKOSHAL COLLEGE. Development:- In 1962 the college was bifurcated and the Arts college was named GOVT. MAHAKOSHAL ARTS COLLEGE In 1983 Commerce stream was also started and the name was again changed to - GOVT. MAHAKOSHAL ARTS & COMMERCE COLLEGE. Inception of Autonomy:- The college is affiliated to Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya under University Grants Commission. It was granted Autonomous status in 1992. According to 1998 guidelines autonomous scheme is effective here. After the visit of the Peer Team of National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Banglore,the college was awarded B++ Grade by them.
