Home -> National Law Universities In Rajasthan -> Vidyasthali Law College

The emerging challenges of legal education in India have impelled the judges, jurists and Advocates, including legal education thinkers, to respond very cautiously and effectively. In this process, the debate on the legal education, particularly, on the nature of law syllabi, has become and unending phenomenon, which is natural and also a demand of the day. The interests of down trodden to have legal aid and that of elites, including multinationals, are contradictory and hence reflecting in the debate on law course in India. The move towards creation of seperate Law Universities by some States introducing Five-Year course in the law has failed, particularly in terms of preparing the students for ideal judiciary, advocacy and law teaching, as this course has proved to serve the interest of multi-national corporations only. However, it may be accepted to some extent that in view of the special feature of Indian society, interests of have-nots and that of creamy layer need both the law courses, i.e. Three-Year course as well as Five-Years course.

The State of Rajasthan, which does not have sufficient multi-nationals in its old, goes to prefer three year course, though the Five-year course has its strary presence, paticularly, in the National Law University established recently at Jodhpur.

If we have a bird-eye-view on the position of legal education in the State of Rajasthan, we have to accept that before opening of private colleges, in the city of Jaipur, the area of Jaipur and its surrounding six district did not witness a satisfactory situation due to paucity of Law Colleges. The intake capacity of law colleges was only 1040 students a year. The Vidyasthali Law College which was established in 2002 having intake capaicty of 240 students a year and has a strength of about 700 students in all, is affiliated to the University of Rajasthan and the Bar Council of India has also granted its recognition/approval of affiliation to it vide registration no. BCI/LE/VLC/JPR/RU/06/2002. The college, in addition to a good faculty, has its own independent beautiful building, library, moot court hall, I.T. room and other infrastructure required for ideal legal education.

The Managing Committee is fully dedicated to make this College as an ideal seat of legal education and research not only at the national level but at the International level, too. With these aspirations, I welcome the faculty members, students, their parents and other legal luminaries to this pious cause.
