The Vinayaka Missions Sikkim University (VMSU) has acquired a unique place in Sikkim in the spread of higher education. While the thrust on regular under-graduate and post-graduate study programmes has been encouraging in terms of time bound semester planning, choice based credit system, 10-point grading system of evaluation and also, allowing students to undergo industry internship, with the availability of the innovative courses and curriculum developed for both regular and/or vocational modular programmes commencing in 2015-16 session with a view to provide more industry interface and gainful employment opportunities to its pass-outs.

Since the first batch of students was admitted in 2010-11 session in faculty of medicine to undergo GNM & B.Sc. (Nursing) programmes, one batch of students has graduated from the College of Nursing. Also, the first batch of students was admitted in 2011-12 session to both the Govt. Gyalsing College (an affiliated College under the University) to undergo B.A. programme and the College of Arts & Science (a constituent College of the University) to undergo BA, BBA & BCA programmes, one batch of students has graduated from the College of Arts & Science so far. Besides, the College of Pharmacy has produced two batches of D.Pharm. passed-outs in 2012 & 2013. The University has also produced two batch each of B.Lib.I.Sc. and M.Lib.I.Sc. programmes under the College of Arts & Science.

The real strength of VMSU lies in its highly qualified, motivated and energetic faculty, sincere officers and dedicated staff. The students are highly disciplined, well behaved, sincere and hard working. The first batch graduates of 2014 got campus placements as well.

On demand from local people, the University launched the Ph.D. programme in 2014-15 session following UGC guidelines. The university is poised to impart higher education in association with the HRDD, Govt. of Sikkim in relevant fields to provide trained manpower for the overall development of the state.
