India is an explicate manifestation of strength of truth and its pursuit which are the central motives of the students and also their conviction that injustice and untruth does not sustain in any discipline more so in the discipline of Law. Banyan tree is considered sacred (also famous as Vat -Vriksha) symbolizing universal peace, contemplation and pursuit of truth. The students of the University have to keep the essentials of truth, justice, and peace as their main motto in pursuit of knowledge. Their knowledge and skill must symbolize the eternal life of the banyan tree and its seemingly unending expansion.
Bow in the balance reflects the society in its natural existence essentially delineating the cultural component of the people living in consonance with nature, widely copious in the State of Jharkhand. The balance establishes the University`s commitment to justice which is sine qua non for truth, peace and prosperity.
National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi (NUSRL) has been established by Act No. 4 of Jharkhand State Assembly in 2010. The University has subsequently been recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) in September 2011 u/s 22 of the UGC Act of 1956. The University started functioning in September 2010 with the appointment of its first Vice Chancellor Prof. A. K. Koul. The first batch of 48 students was admitted through CLAT 2010 (Combined Law Admission Test). At present the University has 238 students on roll at its undergraduate level. The University now stands included as member of the CLAT w.e.f. CLAT 2012. At the undergraduate level, the university offers five year integrated B.A. (Hons.) L.L.B. (Hons.) degree program which consists of ten semesters. The University has also commenced its research program in January 2012.
The process for admitting students through Entrance Test, Group Discussion and Viva-voce to its programs such as Integrated LLM-PhD of three years duration and PhD of two years duration commenced in August 2011 and classes for the same commenced in January 2012 with eight students. Within a span of very short time, the University has considerably spread its academic wings and has established its outreach in the country.
The University, with internationally bench-marked curriculum and pedagogy commenced its classes of B.A., L.L.B.(Hons.) in 2010. With modest beginning, the University is all set to compete with global academic standards with deftly crafted teaching-learning methodology. NUSRL endeavors to share the global opportunity in law as well as legal discipline.
