The University Institute of Pharmacy was established in the year 2001 with a view to promote excellence in state pharmaceutical education. The institute is presently offering Bachelor in Pharmacy, Masters in Pharmacy (Pharmaceutics) and PhD in pharmaceutical sciences with total strength of nearly 280 students. The institute is possesses robust infrastructure and young and dynamic faculty. The teachers are well qualified with most of them having doctorate degree. The standard and quality of pharmacy education and the existing infrastructure are well recognized and approved by Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) and All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) New Delhi.
The Institute possesses excellent working, well designed and equipped Central Instrumentation facility having RT-PCR, HPTLC, UV, HPLC, GC, FTIR Gel electrophoresis, probe sonicator, high speed homogenizer, spectroflourimeter, florescent microscope, automatic 12 station tablet punching machine, Buchi extractor, incubator shaker, cooling centrifuge etc. research, together with teaching is a major activity of the institute.
The research area focuses on novel drug delivery, targeting systems, enhancement of oral bioavailability, herbal drug standardization, phytochemical studies of medicinal plants, development of new methods for drug analysis through sophisticated instruments and biotechnological approaches for drug development. Research facilities at institute are of the highest order as the institution gets research grants from DST-FIST and UGC-SAP and faculties acquires various research grants from DBT, CSIR, UGC, AICTE- MODROB and CG-COST. The department accounts for a large number of scientific publications annually in high-impact journals. The institute has been successful in achieving and maintaining high level of research activity that has been duly recognized at national and international levels. In the last 5 years, more than 100 research/ review papers have been published and presented at various national and international conferences.
The institute provides opportunity and environment to the students for the exchange of views and updating the knowledge by organizing guest lecturers/ Workshops/ Seminars/ Symposium/ Conference in the field of pharmaceutical sciences. Continuous Teacher-Student Academic interaction is maintained to ensure that the learning program remains relevant to the innovative trends in field of pharmacy.
