Courses Offered
- Interior Design,Principles and Theory
The objective of this module is to provide the students with knowledge and skills to to understand and apply basic principles of Design to the Interior Design domain. Following the study of abstract fundamentals of space and form, students will apply these in the solution of a simple spatial problem using for that abstract 3D models and sketches. Emphasis will be on planning for spatial harmony combining abstract concepts of space and form with fundamentals of Design Principles and planning standards.
Free-Hand Drawing
The objective of this module provides the students with the skills to use freehand drawing as a mean to express design ideas. Familiarize students with a range of sketching and rendering techniques to further communicate these design thoughts effectively. Hands-on drawing exercises enable students to gain knowledge and confidence in their power of visualization and the development of perception and execution skills. Students are encouraged to explore and experiment with various rendering skills and art media.
Architectural Drafting
The module provides students with the knowledge and skills to understand the application of architectural graphic conventions and drafting techniques. Architectural drafting as means of graphic communication will be examined in this module. Through lecturers, demonstrations and practical exercises students will be able to produce interior architectural drawings. The module provides students with the knowledge and skills to understand the application of architectural graphic conventions and drafting techniques. Interior Colour Application
The objective of this module is to provide the students with knowledge and skills to to understand and apply basic principles of Colour Theory in the Interior Design domain. The module emphasis is on the study of properties and visual phenomena in the field of Interior Design, where students will develop and apply different colour theories to residential and commercial spaces.
Computer Graphic Skills
The objective of this module is to provide the students with knowledge and skills to understand and use basic graphic software in order to create and edit images and layouts. The process of learning will demand the use of appropriate software available in the working market such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Sketch Up and Microsoft Power Point (or equivalent). The emphasis will be to develop skills to produce 2-D presentation layout.
Presentation Drawing 1
The objective of this module is to assist students in communicating conceptual design through the use of three dimensional drawings and various rendering techniques; and of visual presentation as means of communication for interior designers.
Cultural Studies
The objective of this module provides the student with the knowledge and skills to enable them to understand and appreciate architecture and visual arts. The ultimate goal is to help students consider and analyze the inherent interaction between art and social and cultural values, to develop critical thinking abilities and a greater awareness and understanding of design.
Creativity and Concept Development
The objective of this module is to provide the students with knowledge and skills to engage in problem solving, conceptualization and creativity as a mean of unfolding and developing ideas and design projects. Students will be exposed to paradigm shifts in creative thinking and required to apply lateral thinking skills to analyze real and fictional problems and propose possible solutions to those. The emphasis will be on practical exercises that integrate problem solving, conceptualization and critical thinking skills applied to design projects.
Presentation Drawing 2
The objective of this module is to assist students in combining hand-drawing techniques with computer imaging to improve their drawing skills. The student will explore technique methods that can transform their presentations using mixed media – freehand and digitally. Graphic presentation will be explored to unable the student to prepare and present interior design projects.
2D Computer Aided Drawing
The objective of this module is to provide the students with the knowledge and skills to use 2- Dimensional Auto-Cad software as a drafting tool. The student will apply the proper settings, command tools and modifying tools to create technical drawings such as floor plans, elevations, sections and details. The students will develop the correct skills to express their design ideas and technical knowledge to create a drawing file using the Auto-Cad software. The knowledge and skills attained in this module will help them create professional technical drawings.
Interior Material and Finishes
The objective of this module provides students with the knowledge and skills to understand the world of Interior materials and finishes. The student will be exposed to different materials for interior surfaces. A critical understanding of sustainable design and ecological issues related to materials will be discussed. Students will learn how to select and use appropriate materials and finishes for different interior spaces such as residential and/or commercial projects.
3D Computer Aided Drawing
The objective of this module is to provide the students with the knowledge and skills to use 3- Dimensional Auto-Cad and Revit design software. The student will apply their knowledge to create 3D Virtual models of furniture and Interior spaces. The students will develop the correct skills to express their design ideas and convert them as a drawing file using the design software. The knowledge and skills attained in this module will help them create professional interior design drawings and presentations.
Design Studio 1 (Residential)
The objective of this module provides the students with knowledge and skills to be able to analyze and develop interior spaces for typical residential projects. Following the study of abstract fundamentals of space and form in design principles, students will apply these principles for the planning of interior spaces. The understanding of programming and developing a design brief will be formulated. Emphasis will be on planning for specific human needs, combining geometric concepts of form and space with pragmatic fundamental use and planning standards.
Building Technology and Construction
The objective of this module is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to understand heavy construction materials, components and systems, including wood, steel, and concrete. Students will research and understand concrete foundations, floors, walls, load bearing masonry, and roof framing. The module will demonstrate the installation of doors, windows, stairwells, and interior finishes. Students will also produce working drawings related to the subjects.
