  • The MBBS course was started at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences offers the MBBS course from the session 2008 with and annual intake of 50 seats. The MBBS course is of the duration of 4 years and 6 months as per Academic Calendar of Medical Council of India (MCI), followed by 1 year compulsory rotating internship programe. The course is under affiliation of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong and recognized by Medical Council of India. The MBBS programe commences from the month of August. The seat distribution is as hereunder.

    *The Entrance Examination is held for filling up of 18 (eighteen) seats only under the NE open seats category. For the seats under Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland the respective State Governments nominates their candidates.
    CURRICULUM
    The curriculum and the Syllabus for the course is prescribed by the Standing Curriculum Committee of NEIGRIHMS (approved by the North Eastern Hill University) and based on the Syllabus as prescribed by the Medical Council of India and as practiced by the rest of the Institutions/Universities.

    ELIGIBILITY:

    1. Nationality: Applicant must be a Resident Indian National and Permanent Resident/Domicile of one of the 8 (eight) Northeastern states of India including Sikkim.
    2. The Applicant should have studied and completed their course in the schools located in India in the preceding two years.
    3. He/She has completed age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete the age on or before 31st December of the year of his/her admission to the 1st year M.B.B.S.
    4. The applicant should have passed the qualifying examinations in the manner mentioned below:
      1. The Higher / Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher / Senior Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of such study comprising Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany and Zoology) (which shall include practical tests in these subjects) and with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training after introduction of the 10+2+3 educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education.
      2. The applicant must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology (or Botany and Zoology) and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Botany & Zoology at the qualifying examination.

    METHOD OF SELECTION:

    1. A competitive Entrance examination is usually held during the month of July for filling up of 18 (eighteen) NE open category seats.
    2. All candidates securing less than 50% marks in aggregate in the subject of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English taken together in the Entrance Examination will not be considered for admission to the Institute and their names will not be included in the Merit List.
    3. A combined merit list of all the candidates will be drawn on the basis of their performance in the Entrance Examination.
    4. Inter se merit: In the case of two or more candidates securing equal marks in the Entrance Examination their inter-se merit shall be determined from the marks of the Entrance Examination as follows:
      1. Eliminating first English marks.
      2. If there is still a tie by eliminating Physics marks.
      3. If there is still a tie by eliminating Chemistry marks.
      4. If there is still a tie by eliminating Botany marks.
      5. If the tie is still not broken, then a Candidate senior in age rank senior to a candidate who is junior in age.
    5. Selected candidates will have to  be attend counseling and medical examination at the Institute at their own cost on the notified date. At the time of counseling, candidates will have to attend in person and will have to produce the original Marksheet of the qualifying examination and other original documents mentioned below, such as proof of age, Transfer Certificate, Character Certificate, etc.
    6. To fill the vacancies arising due to the failure of appearance by the selected candidates, sufficient number of candidates from the waiting list will also be called for counseling intimating their merit position in order. Such candidates will have to appear for the counseling on the notified date at their own risk and cost.
    7. Candidates who failed to attend counseling/medical examination on the notified date shall forfeit their claim for admission and placement in the waiting list
