  • About Pharmacology Department

Pharmacology is the study of how chemical agents, both natural and synthetic (i.e., drugs) affect biological systems. This encompasses investigation of the derivation, chemical properties, physiological and behavioral effects, Mechanisms of action, biological transformations, and the therapeutic and non-therapeutic uses of drugs. Our pharmacology courses examine the different classes of drugs, how they are used therapeutically, their mechanisms of action, how they are handled by the human body, and their role in society. Pharmacology provides the scientific basis and principles for a variety of special applications, such as the study of drug actions in the health sciences, the use of drugs as therapeutic agents in medicine or as tools in scientific research, and the development and regulation of pharmaceuticals.
    About Pharmaceutics Department

Pharmaceutics is the discipline of pharmacy that deals with the science of dosage form design and embraces all facets of the process of turning a new chemical entity (NCE) into a medication that can be safely and effectively used by patients in the community. There are many chemicals with known pharmacological properties but a raw chemical cannot be administered, as such, to the patient. Pharmaceutics deals with the formulation of a pure drug substance, which may include generic drugs, into dosage forms such as tablets, capsules, creams, gels, ointments, transdermal and transmucosal patches, solutions, sprays, eye and ear drops, injectables and many others. Successful formulations by pharmaceutical scientists translate to commercialized over-the-counter or prescription products.
    About Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department

Pharmaceutical chemistry is an interdisciplinary science that deals with drug design and synthesis, drug formulation and testing, as well as the delivery of drugs in the body. Pharmaceutical chemistry are disciplines at the intersection of chemistry, especially synthetic organic chemistry, and pharmacology and various other biological specialties, where they are involved with design, chemical synthesis and development for market of pharmaceutical agents, or bio-active molecules. Compounds used as medicines are most often organic compounds, which are often divided into the broad classes of small organic molecules and "biologics", the latter of which are most often medicinal preparations of proteins. Inorganic and organometallic compounds are also useful as drugs.
    Department of Pharmacognosy

In the Pharmacognosy department we teach the students about crude drugs i.e. the drug which are derived from plant, animal and mineral kingdoms. We teach them names of crude drugs in different languages, botanical name, geographical source, cultivation, collection, morphology, microscopy, chemical constituents, and Chemical test for identification, medicinal uses, adulterants, allied drugs, evaluation, and isolation of active constituents, trade of active constituents and the crude drugs. We also teach about principles of Ayurveda, Ayurevedic drugs, method of preparation of Ayurevedic formulation, their evaluation and medicinal uses.

We also teach them about natural pesticides, poisonous plants, health food, nutraceuticals, antioxidants, cardio tonic drugs, liver tonic, drugs, skincare/hair care drugs etc. We show them live and dry medicinal plants and make them expert about their knowledge, we teach different chromatographic methods for the evaluation of crude drugs.
