    The Department of Civil Engineering was started from the very inception of Bapatla Engineering College in 1981 and so far has produced nearly 1850 graduates. Over the years the department has shown remarkable progress in academics. The department was nurtured in the hands of Dr S R Parimi and then groomed under the guidance and services of Dr G. Krishna Swamy, Dr. K N V Prasada Rao, Prof M L Ganju, Dr V. Sreenivasulu, Dr N Rangaiah, Dr A.V. Narayanappa, Dr CH Sarath Babu, Dr K V Krishna Rao (Presently working as faculty at IITB), Dr M Amarnath Reddy (Presently working as faculty at IIT,KGP) and Dr. K. Lakshmi Prasad. The strength of the department lies with its well qualified and dedicated faculty, Skilled supporting staff, well established laboratories, excellent infra structure and disciplined& hardworking students. Dr S R Parimi, Dr G. Krishna Swamy, Dr K N V Prasada Rao and Dr. K. Lakshmi Prasad served the Institution as Principal apart from the department. The department has acquired NBA accreditation and approval by the Institution of Engineers (India) in recognition of its high quality. The department is recognized as Research Centre by Acharya Nagarjuna University to which this institution is affiliated. Civil Engineering is fundamentally a social activity. In the practice of Civil Engineering, we are aware of this, and that is why it is right for us to insist on clarity and intelligibility. We have a specific goal and vision of developing the department into a full fledged learning centre for conceptual knowledge. The department is geared to translate its vision into deeds, by producing quality technocrats with inbuilt character of commitment and hardworking, who can interpret and implement the knowledge acquired for the development of society; by organising national seminars and workshops to expose the students and staff the recent trends in R&D; by improving teaching learning process by supplementing the regular class room instruction with teaching aids such as LCD projector; by conducting technical seminars& group discussions on a continuous basis to enhance knowledge as well as communication skills; by involving faculty in both research and consultancy activities, by encouraging the faculty to update their knowledge in both academic and practical fields by sending them to various conferences, workshops, seminars and through industrial training during vacation.
