The Department of Humanities and Basic Sciences in GATES was established in the year 2001.

Vision of the Department
The department involves in teaching subjects like Professional communication, Soft skills, Human values and Professional ethics for students of engineering. The department consists of dedicated faculty members.
The department of Humanities aspires to achieve excellence in teaching and training the young engineering students in the area of humanities through outcome based quality education and nurtures them to emerge as professional leaders, lifelong learners and responsible citizens of global community.
BASIC SCIENCES
Vision of the Department:
Department strives for development of curriculum viewing emerging trends in technology with a balanced approach towards Institute Industry Interaction and academic excellence along with research in Basic Science.
To mould the students to have strong mathematical and analytical skills to meet the challenges open to them.
To develop undergraduate programmes of best academic standards comparable to reputed university affiliated Colleges in the State.
To work in collaboration with other departments and realize the objectives of institute.
Mission of the Department
The mission of the department is to offer courses that aim to strengthen the student’s creative and critical thinking, problem solving abilities, communication skills and broaden intellectual perspectives, to understand and deal with social realities through continuous learning experiences.To be a catalytic agent in students’ life and help students manifest their latent potential.
Department Strength & Cadres
The Department is headed by Professor Dr. K.P.SATHEESH, M.Sc, M.Phil,PhD,, who is having 15 years of experience in the field of teaching. The Department is also supported by Professor Dr. G. shanthi, who has 15 years of experience in the field of teaching. Break up of teaching staff is : 2 Professors, 6 Associate professors, 22 Assistant professors, 3 Lab Instructors.
DEPARTMENT ACHIEVEMENTS
- A National Level Students symposium NEXUS 2K15 was conducted on 7th FEB, 2015. About 150 students from various engineering colleges in the region were participated in the symposium and presented papers in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and ‘C’ Programming and Data Structures.
