  • The department aims to produce best computer and IT professionals at global level. The LIET has also established a software solutions unit in the institute known as LDSS. The CE and IT deptts have very close links with it. Students get an opportunity of working on live projects in this unit. The Department of CE with its excellent infrastructure and centrally air-conditioned labs with state of the art networking technology, moulds the students into technically valuable, highly qualified computer professionals. Apart from exposing the students to core computer subjects like compiler design, design of algorithms, object oriented DBMS, microprocessors, computer networking, computer security, genetic algorithms, Data warehousing, are offered to students, which makes the curriculum more interesting and of industrial value. On the practical end, the budding professionals are made to work with high-end systems in the labs. There are well equipped labs with a total of 512 P-IV computers connected in LAN using switches and two servers (IBM X220 under Linux 8.0). One for internet facility and academic work and another for local network. Facilities exist for all lab courses given in the curriculum as well as for R & D activities. The computer center has good support infrastructure in terms of air-conditioning and On-line UPS.

LIET has a central standby generator to meet the power requirements of not only the computer labs but the institute as a whole. deptt is well equipped with modern technology such as Pentium IV PC workstations serve the desktop needs of the researchers, faculty, and students. This is extensively used for the administrative and infrastructural needs of the Institute. A fiber-optic back-bone network with 6 network segments, a high-speed Switch (100 mbps) UTP CAT 5 category connections with structured cabling for the desktops are the part of the n/w environment. All the labs have an adequate number of Inkjet and dot matrix printers apart from high-speed laser printers on the network.
