    CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

  • Chemical engineering is quite unique among the many branches of engineering as it links physics, chemistry, and biotechnology together with mathematics and economics to the processes that convert raw materials or chemicals into more useful and valuable forms. The Chemical Engineering specialization focuses on developing industrial processes within the technological, economical, and ecological boundaries.

Chemical engineers often find practical applications for the discoveries they make in their laboratories. The work of a chemical engineer is confused with the work of a chemist. A chemist is responsible for creating chemical reactions needed for a product in the laboratory level. Chemical engineers are then responsible for making the process in large scale in a way that is cost effective, safe, energy efficient, and environmentally sound.

Chemical engineers are involved in the design, operation and maintenance of chemical and allied industries. They also work in the field of energy, environment and safety. Research interested students can explore their innovative ideas through different research organizations such as Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC), CSIR laboratories, Defence Research  and Development Organisation (DRDO), National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), and National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST). They can also have wide range of chemical engineering research opportunities nationally and internationally through Indian Institute of Technologys (IITs), National Institute of Technologys (NITs) and foreign universities.

Chemical engineers are placed in the following industries:
    • Petroleum industries
    • Petrochemical industries
