    ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS

  • The Department of Electrical And Electronics Engineering was started in 2002. The annual intake of B.Tech programme in Electrical and Electronics Engineering is 60. The department is headed by Dr. Pailo Paul, who has over 40 years of teaching experience. The department is backed by a team of motivated, dedicated and experienced teachers graduated from institutions of good repute like IISc, IIT and NIT.

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering started the Post Graduate Programme in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Power Electronics and Power Systems since 2011 with an annual intake of 24.

Power System has been a thrust area in Electrical Engineering. But with the advent of Power Electronics devices, the contemporary Power System has changed and it took a new phase. The Power Electronics has significant role in various phases of power system. The generation of electric power using alternative/ renewable energy sources has become very popular nowadays. Though the extensive use of power electronic devices has adversely affected power quality, researchers have found remedial solutions to tackle power quality issues.

The Post graduate programme on Power Electronics and Power Systems has started with the idea of imparting the techniques of adapting the existing power system to distributed energy generation and its consequences. The course also includes recent topics like smart grid that quickly senses the abnormalities in power system and its “self healing” capability.

The primary objective of the department is to offer value added educational experience through quality instruction that prepares graduates for a range of career opportunities in today`s world.

    • The department envisages moulding graduates to become experts in their chosen fields by encouraging them to become members of professional societies and broaden their knowledge.

    • It inspires the graduates to practice the ethics of their profession consistent with a sense of responsibility and the promotion of social justice.

    • The department ensures that all the final year students do live projects in industries and they can present the technical material orally and in writing.

    • It endeavors to enhance and advance the knowledge and skills of the EEE faculty in their fields of expertise by encouraging them to participate in seminars, workshops, and conferences.

    Research Activities

The department is in the process of building a Research Centre particularly focusing on the areas of Power Electronics and Control. The research activities are aimed to assure a graduate from this department to creatively apply their thoughts from the principles of electrical engineering to solve problems in their chosen career path.
