    MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

  • About

The department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 2009. The Mechanical Engineering program allows students to customize their programs to meet their objectives and particular career goals. This program aims at providing Design quality Under-graduate and Post-graduate Mechanical Engineering curricula to provide opportunities for students to learn fundamental and advanced technologies with sufficient practical knowledge such that they attain a strong competitive advantage.

The department has a team of highly qualified and experienced faculty.

The current Mechanical Engineering batch holds the best result in the recently published university results among numerous other colleges affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University.

    B.Tech.

The B.Tech program is affiliated to the Kerala Technological University, Thiruvananthapuram with an annual intake of 120 students.

B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering is a comprehensive degree program. The goal of the mechanical engineering curriculum is to create a flexible undergraduate and post graduate educational experience in Design, Mathematics, Modelling, Computing, Management, and Engineering Science.

The principal study topics in the Mechanical Engineering program include Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics & Heat Transfer, Solid Mechanics, Materials Engineering, Manufacturing, Energy Systems, Dynamics & Control, Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) and others.

    M.Tech.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers the Post Graduate Programme with specialization in Computer Integrated Manufacturing since 2013 with an annual intake of 18. The course is affiliated to MG University, Kottayam and approved by AICTE.

    Objectives & Activities

    • To train the PG students to work in the field of computer integrated manufacturing where in these students will get detailed insight into automation of manufacturing and manufacturing informatics.

    • To provide hands on experience to the students on the latest software and hardware and make them to fit ready to the Industries.

    Career Scope

In the present scenario, conventional industries are getting retrofitted into automated industries in order to take advantage of the higher production capacity by increased use of automated machineries and its optimization. The manufacturing and maintenance of these machineries require more number of qualified professionals in the area of computer-integrated manufacturing.

The knowledge of CIM will benefit students to get into high profile jobs of highly automated industries fairing in areas like Aerospace, Agriculture, Automobile, Biomedical, Defense, Soft Computing, Materials Management and Supply Chains etc.

    Eligibility (M.Tech):

Candidates who have acquired BE/B.Tech or equivalent degree in appropriate branch by securing not less than 60% marks in aggregate.

The admissions are through central counseling done by DTE, kerala on the basis of merit/GATE. A few seats are also available under sponsored and Management quota. GATE qualified candidates are eligible for scholarship through AICTE.

    Infrastructure:

Students get an opportunity to work in various laboratories on advanced software and instruments. Some of the facilities in the laboratories are:

Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) software (Abacus), Computer Aided Design (CAD)software (Pro-E), CNC Production Lathe, Hydraulic and Pneumatic Control Systems.
