The visibility and impact of the management profession in healthcare has risen in recent years in view of the enabling systems and support it provides to direct-care professions such as nursing and medicine. Hospitals, public health services, including government programs, the pharmaceutical industry, medical and pharma-based product marketing, medical devices, vaccine development, biomedical equipment, clinical trials, pathology labs, health program based consulting, research and publication, teaching and training and medical tourism, are all areas that are covered by the healthcare sector. With an increasing role of Information Technology in the health sector, renowned IT organisations have established their health care verticals.
The governments focus on healthcare investment for sustainable development, the launch of rural and urban health missions, opening of AIIMS like medical institutes , a rapid increase in supporting private players to invest in healthcare sector provide a conducive environment for the rapid growth of healthcare. The governments planned expenditure on healthcare is set to increase from 0.9 per cent of GDP to around 3 per cent. GIM’s two-year full-time post graduate program in healthcare management caters to the increasing corporatisation of healthcare and will provide immense opportunities to the students.
