The LAD program is an amalgamation of fields of Fashion, Product and Design Ethnography. It covers a wide spectrum of lifestyle products and elaborate range of materials, techniques and processes, both traditional and modern. It emphasizes on the aspects of innovativeness of concept, formal attributes of the product coupled with its functional need and experiential value, versatility of applications and its consumer and market relevance.

In the emerging scenario, the boundaries of specializations within design are fading and design is actively getting integrating with management, technology, social sciences, etc. Acknowledging this, LAD will offer an opportunity to students to explore a wide range of materials and processes to evolve their ideas into tangible products and experiences. This will attract a wider pool of applicants from various fields, creating a diverse peer group in the LAD course so the learning environment is rich with multiple perspective and viewpoints.

The demand for professionals with deep understanding of users, their lifestyles and unique need for personal expression is fast growing. These professionals will be equipped with knowledge about fashion, trends, crafts, materials, traditional and modern manufacturing techniques with fair understanding of retail functions. This approach will develop designers who can create products that the user will connect with. They can design anything from a simple utility product to highly a customized luxury product.

The industry is looking forward to welcoming designers who are equipped to contribute in various aspects of product design, right from coming up with an idea to contributing in marketing and sales strategies or even designing kiosks. The Accessory Design course will equip students with design skills so they can switch roles as and when the opportunity arises and move further in their design careers. An accessory designer can join export houses, design houses, retail sector, craft sector, online-retailers or even start their own labels.

The course will focus on four major domains of Lifestyle Accessory Design:

Jewellery Design: Consumer attitudes are changing towards jewellery and it’s now perceived as a lifestyle accessory. Thus, the Jewellery sector will provide a lot of opportunities to LAD graduates. Focused inputs will be given on various Jewellery materials and techniques. Later, students will design either costume/precious jewellery, targeting a specific consumer segment.
Leather-Based Accessory Design: Leather is a material which features in many lifestyle accessories like bags, shoes, luggage or desktop accessories for both male and female consumers. With a focus to introduce student to fundamentals of leather working techniques, it will culminate into a design of a leather-based accessory. This will help them realize the potential in the leather-based accessory design.
Craft-based Accessory Design: India is rich in crafts and this design project would aim at sensitizing students towards our cultural heritage and how they can intervene responsibly to sustain these age-old crafts by developing new products/and strategies to add value in old and new markets.
Interior Space Accessory Design: Interior accessory design is a very promising field which can offer a lot of opportunities for LAD graduates. This project will aim at teaching students the relationship between lifestyle, living space and interior accessories. The project will develop the ability to extend a creative idea to create theme-based collections for an interior space.
