- B.Tech. course in Biotechnology started in 2005 and M.Tech. in the year
2009. The present annual intake of B.Tech is 92 and M.Tech intake is 20.
The department is steadily emerging as a leader in providing excellent
education in undergraduate and postgraduate level in Biotechnology and
to develop cutting-edge technology through research, training and
technical innovation. The curriculum and syllabus has been framed to
meet the challenges of the growing demand of the Biotechnology sector in
India .
Since commencement, the department has performed consistently well both in academics and extra-curricular activities. Students have already made their mark in higher education and professional world in India and abroad. Students routinely get selected for summer internship in best academic institutes in India and abroad. They also get selected in prestigious Khorana Program, KVPY fellowship, Indian Academy of Science fellowship etc. Students qualify in GATE and NET with high score and rank. The students are well placed in industries and academia.
The department is growing consistently since its inception and now has more than forty research scholars working in various research projects. More than ten students received their Ph.D degree from the department and are well placed in academia. The department has plans to start two advanced centres in Life Science and Bioprocess Technology. The department has a Biotech Society under which a seminar series is organized. Prominent scientists from India and abroad routinely give invited talk in our department.
The department of Biotechnology has research projects worth Rs. 5.6 Crore funded by DBT, DST, UGC and The Institution of Engineers, India . Faculty members have research collaborations with various Institutes in India and abroad. Department encourages Industry-Institute interaction and faculty members have collaboration with BPCL, OIL, IOCL and Krish Biotech Ltd. The department has published more than hundred papers in peer reviewed scientific journals in recent years and written books/book chapters. The faculty members routinely act as reviewer of scientific publications, examiner and paper setter of other universities and institutes. The faculty members of the department are routinely invited for talks in universities and institutes in India and abroad. They are also invited as Visiting Faculty/Scientist in India & abroad.
