Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works like roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings. Civil engineering is the oldest engineering discipline. It is traditionally broken into several sub-disciplines including environmental engineering, geo technical engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, water resources engineering, surveying, and construction engineering etc.
VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT :
To produce high Quality Civil Engineering Professionals by imparting quality training, hands on experience and value education.
To strengthen links with Industry via consultancy, workshops, seminars and expert talks from the Industry professionals.
To attain self-sustainability and overall development through Research, Consultancy and effective teaching.
To extend technical expertise to other Institutions around the region and play a role model for others and create technical leaders in society.
Survey Lab
Surveying labs provide students with hands-on experience to supplement instruction in surveying courses. The introductory course, Plane Surveying, exposes students to the fundamental land surveying measurement methods. Students gain familiarity with:
In addition, students have opportunity to use total station equipment, which enables horizontal, vertical, and angular measurements to be made in one operation.
Environmental Engineering Lab
Today with the growing population & due to the man made activities the environment gets polluted day by day. The Environmental Engineering Lab provides the training to the student for complete analysis of water & sewage and also the testing of the various pollutants of water & Air.
Geotech Engineering Lab
The geotechnical laboratory has an important role to play in encouraging students to develop a physical sense of the role of fundamental concepts in soil mechanics. The approach followed at most universities to date includes a basic soil mechanics course at the junior level wherein the students perform laboratory tests to evaluate the soil characteristics. These tests are typically: Particle Size Analysis, Atterberg Limits, Specific Gravity & Density, Proctor Density Tests (Standard and Modified), Direct Shear, Consolidation, Unconfined Compression and Triaxial Test.
The simulator also provides an option in which the user can perform parametric study for the response of soil. For example, triaxial compression behavior under different loading/boundary conditions and the effect of confining pressure and void ratio.
Geology Lab
Geology is one of the branch of civil engineering in which the structural behavior of the rocks and minerals present in it. This also give the detail study of the geological structures of folds , Faults , unconformity, earthquakes, landslides and geological maps.
Concrete Lab:
The concrete laboratory has an important role to play in encouraging students to develop a physical sense of the role of fundamental concepts in concrete technology. It provides expertise on the testing of concrete evaluating its strength, checking the slump designing the Mix for various grades of concrete. It also provides the students the laboratory test of the various raw materials like cement, aggregate, fine aggregate.
Industrial visit:
Industrial visits as a part of Industry institute interaction play a vital role in giving exposure to the students enrolled for professional and industry oriented programs in institution .Much is being emphasised on this aspect by both the policy makers in the government and the industrial organisations, who look forward for adequately equipped technical manpower to be absorbed in their setup.
